Opening Reception: Friday October 30, 7-10PM

The Slow and Unreal Research Lab (SURL) is an unreal institution attending to the ways authority, objectivity, and legitimacy are produced and performed. At Xpace, SURL takes up residence as a working lab, where greenscreen, counter-maps, room dividers, and living samples stage the gestures of official inquiry. Here, the “real world” is understood as the product of politics and imagination acting on one another, a loop that makes any other world difficult to picture. Taking imagination as a building material, the installation lingers between what is shown and what is keyed out, and begins to picture otherwise.
