‘Familiar Ghosts – Archiving Genetic Domesticity’ coalesces art, science and spirituality throughout exploratory, cybernetic installation. Transcribing genealogical networks by hybridizing ritual and taxonomy. Sequestered cultural specimens, archives, heirlooms, and memorabilia, excavated from my ancestral home, are embedded within phantasmagoric sculptures. This rice paper assemblage; cloned from domestic frameworks, recollects my fragmented Japanese heritage through commemorative symbolism. Each intricate lifeline materializes fragility and entangles familial lineage. Personifying the living within a discourse amongst deceased ancestors and their residual inanimate possessions. I navigate transgenerational epigenetics and hauntological ontology by anthropomorphizing lost and forgotten histories. Derived from my ghostly kinships, loss is met with regenerative cultural autonomy. – Marli Davis
