Join us for an introduction to 3D printing and 3D modelling. Xpace is very excited to work with The Margin of Eras Gallery in presenting this workshop facilitated by Designer Andre Baynes.

Digital Prototyping:

The proliferation of digital fabrication tools (CNC milling, laser cutting and 3D printing) have provided small communities the opportunity to produce technological enhancements — improving our own livelihood. Access to these technologies continue to reduce our dependence on exploitative industrial processes while maintaining a high level of precision, consistency and quality. Problems which arise from industrialized production could be solved by empowering community makers to control the systems that drive our local infrastructure.

In this workshop, participants will learn how to turn concepts into computer models for 3D printing. The workshop will equip students with the fundamentals of constructing “watertight” print (“Watertight” is a term used to describe a 3D mesh suitable for 3D printing.)

Skills learned:
Intro to 3D modelling for 3D printing
Basics of spline modelling
Software tools for working with digital fabrication

Accessibility:
There is a Stop Gap ramp at the front door. It is a single door. The washroom is located down a flight of stairs in the basement. It is single use washroom. The closest accessible washroom is a Queen and Roncesvalles at McDonalds.

Andre Baynes is a digital artist and designer. His work looks at human progress and the existence (or lack) of blackness in contemporary visions of utopia. His work attempts to link the development and evolution of technology with culture and identity, using illustration, video, and sculpture.

FREE with RSVP. Click here to register.

This workshop accompanies the exhibition For Us, By Us, produced with the support of the City of Toronto through the Toronto Arts Council.
