Gallery TPW has created a 44 week employment opportunity for a recent graduate from a post secondary degree program in a Fine Arts, Art History, Arts Administration, Museum Studies or Design program.
The Communication Coordinator will provide communication and research support for exhibitions, events, special projects, as well as the day-to-day operations of the gallery. The successful candidate will work closely with the gallery staff on projects related to programming, liaising with the public, outreach initiatives, and fundraising. Some physical work will also be required while working in the gallery.
Responsibilities:• In consultation with the board and staff the Communication Coordinator will coordinate the artistic design, editing and production of promotional materials for the gallery• Research associated costs and prepare detailed estimates and budgets for all communication and promotional materials for Gallery TPW• Coordinate and implement advertising and promotional strategies for gallery fundraisers and membership
Tasks:• Perform regular website updates.• Provide support for the development of web-based programming initiatives• Develop and layout new content for the website• Manage and maintain the gallery’s social networking pages• Develop new social networking strategies• Assist with fundraising and development, as required, as it relates to communications• Prepare and distribute media releases for exhibitions, fundraisers and membership events• Establish and maintain positive relationships with local regional, national and international media• Maintain media contact and membership mailing lists• Monitor the media for articles and publicity related to Gallery TPW• Produce and maintain an inventory of visual images to promote the Gallery, its exhibitions, and programs• Supervise communication volunteers Hours will typically be 4 days a week Wednesday through Saturday, from 10 am – 5:30 pm. Occasional evenings as required. Required qualifications include:• Knowledge and experience using computer applications / programming languages including Adobe Creative Suite, HTML, CSS and content management systems such as Joomla• Knowledge and experience using social networking tools such as twitter and facebook• A strong knowledge of contemporary art• Excellent written and oral communication skills• Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills• Educational background in Fine Arts, Art History, Arts Administration, Museum Studies or Design• Skills and experience with new media as well as design for both print and web• Experience with Apple computer systems and basic office programs including database software, spreadsheets and word processing programs• Experience writing press releases is an asset• Bilingualism in both official languages is definitely an asset, but not a required component of the position
Eligibility: This internship position is funded by the Cultural Human Resources
Council through the Young Canada Works Program to provide career-related employment for emerging cultural workers. To participate in this internship, the intern must be:
• are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada;
Note: Non-Canadian students holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible.• are legally entitled to work in Canada;• are between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;• meet the eligibility criteria of the program for which you are applying;• are registered in the YCW on-line candidate inventory;• are willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment;• do not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with YCW;• are an unemployed or underemployed college or university graduate, that is, not employed full-time;• are a recent graduate who has graduated from college or university within the last 24 months;• are not receiving Employment Insurance (EI) benefits while employed with YCW;• must not have previously participated in or been paid under this or any other Career Focus internship program funded under the Government of Canada’s Youth Employment Strategy.
