Ideation is a creative process for generating new ideas. It covers all the stages in a thought cycle leading to the actualization of a solution, action or object. In this workshop, we will focus on ideation sketching: a technique for rapidly capturing and developing ideas, and ideation through rough prototyping.

Ideation sketching involves different levels of quick sketching allowing you to get your ideas down quickly and identify needs and potential problems when designing (in this case) a physical object. Prototyping is an important part of the ideation process, allowing you to test your ideas using inexpensive and recycled materials. This part of the process reveals insight you wouldn’t be able to gain from just a sketch, providing opportunities to explore form, scale, proportion, and material.

Skills to be learned:
Thumbnail Brainstorming
Visual Mapping
Concept Sketching
Rough Prototyping

Andre Baynes is a digital artist and designer. His work looks at human progress and the existence (or lack) of blackness in contemporary visions of utopia. His work attempts to link the development and evolution of technology with culture and identity, using illustration, video, and sculpture.
