Presented alongside the exhibition recurrence, join us for an evening of short films and video works by Kim Ninkuru, Zoma Tochi Maduekwe, Monika Estrella Negra and Alli Logout. Kim, Monika and Alli will also be present for a post-screening discussion moderated by Maandeeq Mohamed.
Program:
Lucid Noon Sunset Blush (Alli Logout, 2015, 32:11 min.): Lucid Noon Sunset Blush takes you on a hyper-real queer fantasy like you’ve never seen in the South before. Outed by Netflix and kicked out by her parents, 16-year bb gay Micah flees her South Texas home to the nearest city where she is taken in by a squad of black femmes who steal bikes and domme white boys out of their secret underground lair.
Dodo Nightclub (Kim Ninkuru, 2017, 05:00 min. and 00:15 sec.): A digital response to the lack of safe spaces for african queer and trans people to party and have fun without harassment, assault and bad music. This work is for every african trans girl who just wants to wine in peace.
Play (Zoma Tochi Maduekwe, 2017, 05:00 min.): Play is a video piece that imagines variations of black digitality with the current technology at hand, through 3D and videogame landscapes.
Flesh (Monika Estrella Negra, 2016, 15:00 min.): An avant-garde horror mash-up that follows a Black woman’s journey in destroying harmful habits. Internalized racism, misogyny and eurocentrism are topics discussed in this fast-paced ‘horror short’.
