How hard is it to publish a book? What can making a book teach us about the space around us?
This workshop is for artists, designers, and writers who are interested in an up-close and personal look at the process of publishing a guidebook – and stories of community-building and placemaking that get made in parallel. I’ll be sharing anecdotes from fieldwork done for an architectural guidebook in the Philippines, as well as tips for support, outreach, and generally seeing a large multi-authored project through to completion. We will also be talking about the value of curation and photographic and graphic presentation of book content. Finally, the workshop will end with a hands-on discussion about architecture in Toronto where we’ll share and “publish” our personal landmarks, the local buildings that hold memories and stories for us.
