Stop Motion Animation Workshop and Calls for Submissions

Oh hello! Guess what? We are hosting another workshop on June 8th with artists Sarah D’Angelo and Julia Dickens! Hurry there may only be a couple of spots left!

This work shop is an introductory course and is designed for people with minimal or no previous experience with stop motion. The goal is to familiarize students with industry standard programs like Dragon Frame while also being taught the basics of storyboarding, proper timing techniques, set & character development. This workshop also aims to demonstrate how stop motion can be executed on a low budget, by using creative solutions and recyclable materials. Julia Dickens and Sarah D’Angelo will be showing short clips of their work and of artist that have influenced their work like Alison Schulnik,Will Vinton and Bruce Bickford.

Students aren’t expected to bring any materials with them but can if they would like to! Workshop is free but please RSVP to alicia@xpace.info to reserve your spot.

About the artists:

Sarah D’Angelo is a visual artist, storyteller and good listener. Exploring the world of claymation, her work aims to capture the spontaneous narratives that comprise our disparate realities. Dabbling in many fields Sarah D’Angelo is currently studying Illustration at OCADU, working as an assistant event co-ordinator at XPACE Cultural Centre and founder of her own artist run studio space. She is looking forward to meeting all of you.

Julia Dickens is a Toronto-based artist and animator, currently completing her Bachelor of Design in Illustration at OCADu, with a minor in Painting and Drawing. Julia worked for over 2 years at the National Film Board Mediatheque, teaching and programming stop motion animation workshops to children of all age groups. Julia’s artistic practice involves drawing, painting, and the creation of printed zines and artist multiples. Julia is an intern at XPACE Cultural Centre and is currently in the process of making a short clay animation film with Sarah D’Angelo.

Opportunities and Calls for Submissions!

 

White Water Gallery Annual Call for Submissions, North Bay ON

White Water Gallery Artist-Run Centre is currently accepting submissions for its 2015-16 programming roster. This call is open to contemporary artists, collectives, performers, and curators working in any/all media who prioritize risk and innovation in the creation of their work. Priority will be given to proposals that involve partnerships and collaboration through art creation, incubators, workshops and research.

Exhibitions at White Water Gallery generally run approximately 7 weeks in length, and the gallery is dedicated to paying full CARFAC fees according to the current fee schedule set forth by the Canadian Artists Representation Copyright Collective (CARCC) for a Category 1 (small) gallery space. They also accept proposals for “micro” residencies for up to 4 weeks in length Canadian and International artists or groups interested in engaging with our Northern Ontario community. Artist fees and travel for residencies are negotiated on a case by case basis and special funding may need to be secured in order to accommodate some projects.

Propaganda Swag Jag

Propaganda: Art-Made Grenade is an arts incubator that explores the hidden and potentially explosive intentions found within artist-run culture. As part of Propaganda, White Water Gallery will host  a Zine and Multiples Fair on July 19th & 20th to bring amazing artwork and artists to engage with the local community of North Bay, Ontario.

CALL FOR SPONSORSHIPS: Would you like to sponsor a crazy-awesome arts event? How about receiving an autographed picture of an obscure Canadian arts administrator? Or maybe you just want to make the world a better place by celebrating art? You can do all these things and more by sponsoring our PROPAGANDA SWAG JAG!

Here’s how: Take a bunch of swag from your office and mail it to them. This can include, but is not limited to: buttons, pens, tote bags, old magazines, catalogues, brochures, business cards, paperclips, postcards, ID badges, passports, guitar picks, magnets or any other swag-like arts articles that you’ve got laying around.WARNING: DO NOT PUT LIVE ANIMALS IN THE MAIL!

All contributing groups will be recognized for their support in two ways:
1) They will receive an exclusive autographed photo of a White Water Gallery staff member in the mail.
2) Their organization will be formally recognized in all PROPAGANDA advertising online and in print.

Why swag? Because it’s fun! All swag submissions will be displayed on-site during the Zine and Multiples Fair at a “free advice” trading post. Swag will be bargained in exchange for conversations about the changes in our community and/or industry. Creating arts dialogues on a local, regional, and national level is vital to keeping arts and culture alive, and your donation can help us find the cure make great things happen!

Neutral Ground, Regina SK – Ongoing Call for Submissions

Neutral Ground invites artists and curators to submit proposals for exhibitions, projects or performance in all media. Neutral Ground will present visual and interdisciplinary work in exhibition format, performance, or off-site.

Artists receive financial support, reception & opening, design and printing of promotional materials, documentation, gallery assistance and outreach, a budget for travel to Regina in conjunction with the exhibition and space is available on the Web site for announcements, archival materials or adjunct activities related to the project including user groups, etc.

Proposals are accepted on an ongoing basis and can be submitted year round. Artists are limited to one solo exhibition in a three year period. Work that has been shown previously in Regina will not be eligible.

New media and Web based projects should be directed to Soil Digital Media Suite, c/o Neutral Ground.

Located in the incredible setting of the Canadian Rocky Mountains, The Banff Centre is a unique 43-acre “village for the arts” in the heart of Banff National Park. The Centre operates year-round, offering intensive programs for artists at every stage of their professional careers. From recent graduates to artists at the forefront of the international scene, The Banff Centre has something to offer everyone.

Trinity Square Video is looking for a dynamic Programming Director to envision, lead and manage the implementation of programming at TSV, one of Canada’s leading artist-run centres dedicated to the creation, exhibition and educational possibilities of Video Art.

Trinity Square Video’s Programming Director is responsible for conceiving, developing and implementing the vision and focus of the organization through exhibition initiatives both on site and off. The Programming Director plays a leading role in creating a programming vision for the centre and has a strong and demonstrated background in the theoretical, technical and practical aspects of Video Art and gallery installation. The Programming Director ensures that the programming reflects the values of the organization.

The Programming Director is responsible for selecting and working with artists in TSV Gallery’s exhibitions, the Themed Commission Program, Master Classes, Artist Talks and Panels with the support of the Programming Committee. TSV’s scope in the arts community and public is enhanced by the Programming Director’s ability to connect to other arts organizations to build TSV’s audience.
