This mixed-media installation navigates the in-betweens of the here and there from intermediate forms to arrangements from one place to another; from Korea to Canada, as foreign to domestic, to the processes of art practice, from studio, exhibition, storage and beyond. Here, the many influences that frame my daily existence happen all at once and are represented in a moment.
Using tactics of collage, situations are left in construction and unresolved. Objects as markers of labour, body, site and culture are pushed to the edges of abstraction as the aesthetic motifs of western culture, orientalism and modernity begin to overlap into their undoing. At large, seemingly unrelated pieces once parts of homogenous wholes coalesce into a portrait of home that embraces the uncertainties within the margins of representation.
It is where integration, displacement and adaptation come together to continue a story of survival.
