community of care is informed by queer femme knowledge. The queer bodies in this work are centered as monumental figures that signify resiliency and power. Femme voices, perspectives and stories are not at the forefront of queer discourse, although the narratives within the works symbolize a vision of a community of care, based on the intersections and multiplicities of identities. This support network thrives on reciprocity, listening and care. Working to educate others and affirming one’s own experiences takes continual effort. This emotional labour pushes us to seek each other out, validate our experiences, and form a stronger bond rooted in solidarity and encouragement.
This exhibition was created during Xpace’s summer residency for recent OCAD University graduates.
