Pairing the artist’s stroke with domestic mark making questions why the latter has been trivialized as generic gesture while the former is associated with authenticity. With forms that beg activation by a user (furniture) rather than contend with a viewer for room (sculpture), and imagery that is plebeian, a space can become so comfortably familiar it can melt away entirely. I think art works its best when it almost doesn’t look like itself at all.
